Breast Augmentation Post-Operative Instructions
Follow all post-operative care instructions provided by your surgeon to promote proper healing and implant positioning. Mild swelling, tightness, and discomfort are common after surgery and generally improve over the following weeks.
First 24 Hours After Surgery
- Rest with upper body elevated using 2–3 pillows.
- Sleep on your back only.
- Start with sips of water after 4 hours, light meals after 6 hours if tolerated.
- Drink plenty of fluids and reduce salt intake.
- No smoking, vaping, or alcohol.
- Wear surgical bra at all times unless instructed otherwise.
- Take short walks every 2 hours while awake.
- Avoid lifting, bending, pushing, or pulling.
- Do not drive.
Preventing Dizziness
- Before standing, sit at the edge of the bed and let your legs hang down for 2–3 minutes.
- Take deep breaths before standing.
- Stand up slowly with support if needed.
- Have someone nearby when walking to the bathroom in the first 24 hours.
If Dizziness Occurs
- Sit or lie down immediately.
- Elevate your legs slightly.
- Take slow deep breaths.
- Drink fluids once you feel better.
- Inform your doctor if dizziness persists or you faint.
48 Hours After Surgery
- Swelling increases during first 3–5 days.
- Breasts may look high, firm, or uneven initially.
- Mild bruising and itching are normal.
- Nipple sensitivity changes are common.
- You may shower after 48 hours — let water run gently and pat dry.
- Reapply surgical bra immediately after shower.
- No gym, running, or swimming for 2 weeks.
- Continue sleeping on your back.
Medications at Home
Take medications exactly as prescribed. Take tablets after food to reduce gastric irritation. Do NOT combine Tramadol and Panadol Night.
What Is Normal
- Swelling, bruising, tightness.
- Temporary asymmetry.
- Mild pink drainage.
- Numbness or hypersensitivity.
- Feeling of heaviness.
Call the Clinic Immediately If You Notice
- Sudden swelling in one breast.
- Severe or increasing pain.
- Rapid breast enlargement.
- Bright red bleeding.
- Fever above 38°C.
- Foul-smelling discharge.
- Shortness of breath or chest pain.
Additional Important Instructions
- Avoid smoking for at least 4 weeks.
- Avoid underwire bras until cleared by your surgeon.
- Avoid intense chest muscle exercises for 4–6 weeks.
- Maintain stable body weight for best long-term results.
- Attend all follow-up appointments.
- Long-term implant monitoring is recommended.
