Face Lift Post-Operative Instructions
Adhere to your surgeon’s post-operative instructions to ensure proper healing and achieve the best aesthetic outcome. Mild swelling, bruising, and tightness are common after facelift surgery and typically subside progressively during recovery.
First 24 Hours After Surgery
- Keep head elevated at 45 degrees at all times, including during sleep.
- Take sips of warm water 4 hours after surgery. Semi-solid food if tolerated.
- Apply cold compress to cheeks for 10–15 minutes every hour (avoid pressure).
- Do NOT blow your nose.
- Walk gently inside room every 2 hours.
- Wear compression garment continuously.
- Avoid lifting, bending, or straining.
- Do not wash or rub face.
- No smoking, vaping, or alcohol.
Preventing Dizziness
- Before standing, sit at the edge of the bed and let your legs hang for 2–3 minutes.
- Take deep breaths before standing.
- Stand slowly with support.
- Have someone nearby during the first 24 hours.
If Dizziness Occurs
- Sit or lie down immediately.
- Elevate legs slightly.
- Take slow deep breaths.
- Drink fluids once better.
- Contact your surgeon if dizziness persists or you faint.
48–72 Hours After Surgery
- Swelling peaks at 48–72 hours.
- Bruising may darken before improving.
- You may shower and wash hair gently.
- Pat incisions dry — do NOT rub.
- Continue compression garment.
- Continue light walking.
- No gym, heavy lifting, or strenuous activity.
After 72 Hours
- Tightness and mild asymmetry are normal.
- Numbness may persist for weeks.
- Continue head elevation.
- Begin scar ointment only if advised.
- Makeup may be applied to face (avoid incisions).
- Wear sunscreen outdoors.
- No swimming or running for 2 weeks.
- Avoid hair dye for 3–4 weeks.
- Avoid facial massage unless instructed.
- Final results visible after 3–6 months.
Medications at Home
Take medications exactly as prescribed. Take tablets after food to prevent gastric irritation. Do NOT combine Tramadol and Panadol Night. Do NOT take Tramadol after midnight to avoid next-day dizziness.
Warning Signs — Call Immediately If
- Sudden swelling on one side.
- Severe pain not relieved by medication.
- Expanding tightness.
- Bright red bleeding.
- Fever above 38°C.
