Hair Transplant Post-Operative Instructions
Follow your surgeon’s aftercare instructions carefully to protect the transplanted grafts and support healthy hair growth. Mild redness, swelling, and scab formation in the treated areas are normal and usually resolve during the healing process.
First 24 Hours After Hair Transplant
- Do not touch, rub, or scratch the transplanted area.
- Keep head elevated at 30–45° while resting or sleeping.
- Avoid bending forward or sudden head movements.
- Mild bleeding or oozing from donor area is normal.
- Apply cold compress to forehead only (not on grafts).
- Do not wear tight caps or helmets.
- Take prescribed medications on time.
Preventing Dizziness
- Before standing, sit at the edge of the bed and let your legs hang for 2–3 minutes.
- Take deep breaths before standing.
- Stand slowly with support if needed.
- Have someone nearby during the first 24 hours.
If Dizziness Occurs
- Sit or lie down immediately.
- Elevate legs slightly.
- Take slow deep breaths.
- Drink fluids once stable.
- Contact your surgeon if dizziness continues or you faint.
Hair Washing Instructions
- Day 1–2: Do NOT wash hair. Use saline spray as advised.
- Day 3–7: Wash once daily with diluted mild/baby shampoo.
- Pour gently over scalp — do NOT rub.
- Rinse with low-pressure lukewarm water.
- Pat dry softly (no rubbing).
- After 7 days: Gentle fingertip washing allowed.
- Scabs fall off naturally by Days 7–14. Do NOT pick.
Avoid for 10–14 Days
- Heavy exercise or gym.
- Swimming pool or sea.
- Sauna or steam room.
- Direct sun exposure.
- Hair styling products.
- Helmet or tight caps.
- Smoking and alcohol (minimum 7 days).
Medications at Home
Take medications exactly as prescribed. Take tablets after food to prevent gastric irritation.
What Is Normal After Hair Transplant
- Mild pain or tightness in donor area.
- Small scabs around grafts.
- Temporary numbness.
- Shedding of transplanted hair at 2–4 weeks (shock loss).
- New growth starts around 3–4 months.
- Final results visible at 9–12 months.
Contact Surgeon Immediately If You Notice
- Excessive bleeding.
- Severe swelling or pain.
- Fever above 38°C.
- Pus or unusual discharge.
