Rhinoplasty post-operative instructions

First 24 hours

• Breathe through your mouth
• Keep head elevated at 45° even while sleeping
• Sips of warm water 4 hours after surgery, then semi-solid food if tolerated
• Apply cold compress to cheeks and eyes for 10–15 minutes every hour
• Walk gently inside the room every 2–3 hours
• Do NOT blow your nose
• Do NOT disturb the nasal pack or splint
• No smoking for 2 weeks

Preventing dizziness: Sit at the bed edge with legs hanging for 2–3 minutes before standing, take deep breaths, then stand slowly with support. Have someone nearby for the first 24 hours. If dizziness occurs, sit or lie down, elevate legs, breathe slowly, and drink fluids once stable. Contact your surgeon if it persists or you faint.

24–72 hours

• Continue head elevation and cold compress
• Expect swelling, bruising, congestion, and mild blood-tinged drainage — this is normal
• Keep nasal splint clean and dry; shower after 24–48 hours but keep splint dry
• Avoid hot showers
• Brush teeth gently
• No strenuous activity, bending, or lifting; light housework and desk work are fine

After 72 hours

• Sleep on your back with head elevated for 2 weeks
• No blowing your nose for 2 weeks; sneeze with mouth open
• Avoid contact sports or nasal trauma
• No glasses resting on nose for 4–6 weeks
• No alcohol or smoking for 2 weeks
