Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) Post-Operative Instructions
Follow all post-operative instructions carefully to support proper healing and achieve the best possible results. Wear your compression garment as advised, avoid strenuous activities during recovery, and attend all scheduled follow-up appointments. Contact your surgeon immediately if you experience excessive swelling, severe pain, fever, or any unusual symptoms.
First 24 Hours After Surgery
- Rest in a semi-sitting position (about 45 degrees) with knees slightly bent.
- Walk slightly bent forward. Do not stand fully upright.
- Sit at the edge of the bed before standing to prevent dizziness.
- Take short walks every 2–3 hours while awake.
- Keep compression garment on at all times.
- Mild tightness and light drainage are normal.
- Take deep breaths regularly to improve oxygenation.
Diet and Hydration
- Start with sips of water, then light meals.
- Eat small portions to reduce bloating.
- Drink plenty of fluids.
- Avoid salty foods and alcohol.
- Constipation is common; increase fiber and fluids.
48–72 Hours After Surgery
- Continue walking every 2–3 hours.
- Maintain slightly bent posture.
- Expect swelling, bruising, tightness, and mild numbness.
- Empty drains as instructed if present.
- Shower only if advised and pat wounds dry.
After Day 4 Onwards
- Gradually increase walking distance.
- Slowly stand more upright as comfort allows.
- Wear compression garment 24 hours daily for 4–6 weeks.
- Keep incision clean and dry.
- Avoid gym, swimming, and running for 4 weeks.
Contact Your Surgeon Immediately If You Notice
- Fever above 38°C
- Sudden severe abdominal swelling or pain
- Shortness of breath
- Excessive bleeding or foul discharge
- Leg pain or swelling
Healing Expectations
- Swelling improves gradually over weeks.
- Final contour visible after 3–6 months.
- Maintain stable weight for best results.
- Attend all follow-up appointments.
